If there is anything I do because of who I am at my core — while doing the many things I choose to do with my time — it is this: I learn and grow. Often, one step forward and two (or more) steps back, but I net out more aware, more awake, a little wiser and… well... a happier person. Getting older doesn’t change that one bit.
The old saying, 'no matter where you go, there you are', applies not only to location: it also applies in time. It applies now as much as it did when I was in my 20s. It applies whether I'm running an ad agency, biking, RVing or standing at my desk writing. And I suspect it will apply fifteen or twenty years from now, if I'm lucky enough to live that long.
Lots of us reach inflection points in life; moments ripe with challenge and opportunity. Doors begging us to open them. At a moment in life usually reserved for a slowing down retirement, I've stepped into an exciting new phase. And yes, it’s a bone-deep habit! In this one lifetime, I've retired from mowing lawns to baby-sitting to working in a movie theater; from there to being an AP award-winning broadcast journalist, to being a modestly successful singer and songwriter, to owning a multiple award-winning ad agency, to traveling in an RV and blogging about it…and a few others in between.
Now, I've taken on something I never thought I would want to do; or could do. After 40 years of professional writing, I'm working my way toward becoming a published author of fiction in 2024...or 2025, TBD. Genre: thriller, sub-genre woman-in-peril. It's hard and fun and absolutely chocked full of opportunities to grow and change and stumble and get up and keep at it. I'm having a blast!
And learning a lot. Still more, always more, to learn. Especially from you.
When I write, I'm sharing. When I read what you write back, I'm learning. So, whether you signed up here to receive an email when I post new content or find the posts on Facebook, please, keep it coming people.
