Mia Evanescence must escape a nightmare marriage and vanish herself in order to survive. Her new husband Aleksanteri Hasapsis leverages his family’s Greek Mafia resources alongside diplomatic immunity from his role at the Embassy of Greece in Washington, DC to thwart Mia’s early escape efforts. As his attempts to control her escalate from abusive to deadly, Mia’s efforts to plan her disappearance are cut short. She executes a harrowing escape — rappelling from her third-floor home office window — and eventually lands in the fictional cajun town of Delareau, Louisiana.

Separated from her adoptive family, her best friend, and the business she owns, Mia is left with scant resources, a limited support network, and only rudimentary survival skills with which to hide from Aleks and build a new life. A chance encounter with Delareau resident Leanne Broussard Fortier, pregnant and seeking her own escape from danger, offers Mia an opportunity to use her newfound knowledge and creativity to assist another woman in need, and — super important — secure necessary funds.

Mia's journey requires a new identity for herself and a limo to employ in vanishing Leanne. She enlists the aid of local restaurant-bar owner Jake Brusey, who, despite his reservations about assisting a stranger, finds himself drawn to Mia's strength and vulnerability. Breaking his lifelong rule, he leans on the 'dark side' of his family to help.

As The Vanishing Series unfolds, Mia's primary coping mechanism, the art of 'forgetting,' forged during her traumatic childhood, begins to crumble amid the devastating events of her present. While she narrowly escapes Aleks’ obsessive efforts to capture her, and help others effect their own new beginnings, Mia will, step-by-step throughout the series, unravel the mystery surrounding her mother’s death, her father’s fate, and the life-altering choices she must make in light of the shattering truth she learns.
